NCCC Criminal Justice Association funds Jeopardy Tourney

WINSTED — Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s (NCCC) Criminal Justice Association held a fundraiser at Laurel Bowling Lanes on Thursday, Oct. 29.

The event was organized by the association and club advisor Michael Emanuel.

According to Emanuel, the goal of the event was not only to earn proceeds for the club activities, but to also get involved with the community.

The club also hosted a bake sale on Thursday evening. The cookies and cupcakes sold benefited the clubs earnings.

“We want to have fun tonight and spend time with each other, and then hopefully the public will join us,” Emanuel said.

Doug Hausch, the owner of the Laurel Lanes who has supported events for the club before, donated a portion of the proceeds for the night to the association.

The money that was raised on Thursday night will aid the group in registering for a Jeopardy tournament held by Todd Bryda, a history professor at NCCC.

The tournament will be held in March, and the proceeds from the event will benefit women’s breast cancer research. The association also plans on using the remaining proceeds to sponsor a family during the holidays, visit the Tort Law Museum and donate to Educated Canines to Assist with Disabilities (ECAD).

“It definitely brings awareness to the program because they the community sees that children who are part of the school and community want to do more, and it motivates people to want to know more about what we do,” said Alex Green, president of the Criminal Justice Association.
