New home for Last Post is finished

FALLS VILLAGE — Nearly a year after a Nov. 4, 2011, fire killed 30 cats and destroyed two buildings and a maintenance shed, the new buildings at The Last Post are complete.Wingard and Pedersen Builders, based in Falls Village and Sharon, did the work.The November fire occurred when the facility was without power, following the massive Oct. 30 snowstorm that paralyzed much of the region and left hundreds without power for a week or more.The Last Post was established in 1982 by Pegeen Fitzgerald of New York City and Kent. Fitzgerald, a New York radio personality, advertising executive, author and animal advocate, wanted to provide a safe and homelike surrounding for animals whose owners had died or were no longer able to care for them.For more information on the facility, go to www.thelastpostonline.org.
