Joseph Ward


TORRINGTON — Joseph Daniel Ward, 45, of South Main Street, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Torrington Oct. 16, 1961, he was the the son of William R. Ward and the late Janet (Vitarella) Ward. He had lived in Torrington all of his life. He was a graduate of Torrington High School and recieved his associate’s degree in business from Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted. He was an avid bowler, loved watching the New York Mets and New York Giants and enjoyed participating in the passion plays at St. Thomas Church in Southington.

His survivors include his father; his companion, Irene Raiche of Tolland; two sisters, Lee Ann Ward and her companion, James Nye, and Kathryn Jean Ward, all of Torrington; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held Oct. 18 from the Maloney Funeral Home, Winsted, to St. Peter’s Church in Torrington for the funeral liturgy. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
