Crimson Knights defeat Choate in a hard-fought game Jan. 17

SALISBURY — The Salisbury School hockey team took on Choate at Salisbury’s home rink on Monday, Jan. 17, and came out victorious with a score of 3-2. The Crimson Knights dominated the first two periods of the game, scoring two goals and holding off Choate until close to the end.

The game was an extremely physical one, with a high number of penalties for both teams, which left them short handed for much of the game play.

Choate’s defense during these times was nearly impeccable, and they killed the majority of their penalties without allowing Salisbury to score, including one double power play in which Choate was down two players in the third period.

However, Salisbury did manage to score one goal during the second period while missing one of their own players and facing a complete Choate team.

The Crimson Knights led 2-0 for the majority of the game, until Choate tied up the score with two back-to-back goals in the last six minutes of play. The Salisbury boys then scored a third goal with four minutes left on the clock, bringing the score to 3-2, where it remained for the rest of the game.

Salisbury head coach Andrew Will said that the game was a big “character win for his team.

“Giving up our two goal lead, yet finding a way to get that third goal — it showed a lot of character, he said.

Will also pointed out that both Choate’s and Salisbury’s hockey teams are great, and that all of the players in the game competed hard.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
