Frances (Farley) Kipp

AMENIA — Frances (Farley) Kipp, 87, a longtime resident of Amenia, died Sept. 24, 2011, at Sharon Hospital. She was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Hudson Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late Ella May (Hill) and Fred A. C. Farley. Mrs. Kipp was a vocational rehabilitation assistant at the Wassaic Developmental Center in Wassaic for 25 years before retiring in 1985. She married Ward Bynon Kipp Jr. on Sept. 24, 1944, in Amenia. He died Jan. 31, 2011. Mrs. Kipp and her husband, owned and operated the Amenia Drive-In Theatre from 1965 to 1985.For the past 65 years, she was a member of the Amenia Grange No. 698. She was also a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Amenia.Mrs. Kipp is survived by a daughter, Karen Guerra and her husband, Gerardo “Gerry,” of Wolcott, Conn.; two grandchildren, Mischael and Eric Guerra; four great-grandsons, Kevin, Aiden, Ryan and Alex Guerra; and a niece, Katherine Card Thomas. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Florence Hotaling.Funeral services were held Sept. 28 at the Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains. Burial followed at the Amenia Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Amenia Rescue Squad, PO Box 166, Amenia, NY 12501. WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
