AMENIA — Florence B. Carroll, 113, a longtime resident of Amenia, and recently of Salisbury, passed away on April 15, 2021, at Noble Horizons. Mrs. Carroll was the oldest living resident in the State of Connecticut.
Born on June 9, 1907, in Millerton, she was the daughter of the late Mary (McCann) and Emilio Brunese.
Mrs. Carroll was a graduate of Millerton High School, Class of 1925. On Feb. 9, 1930, at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, she married John J. Carroll, who predeceased her on Jan. 27, 1989.
Mrs. Carroll worked as a private cook for AB Hall in Lakeville. She was also a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia.
Mrs. Carroll is survived by two sons, John Carroll and Philip Carroll, both of Amenia; a daughter, Jean Leggett of Dover Plains; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Carroll is predeceased by five sons, Joseph, Richard, Thomas, William and Alan Carroll; a daughter, Marion Ursula Robertson; three brothers, William, Emil and John Brunese; and five sisters, Agnes Donne, Margaret Loomis, Magdalene Brunese, Cecilia Pawelchak and Gertrude Loretta Dennis.
Calling hours were held April 20 at the Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 21 at Immaculate Conception Church in Amenia, the Rev. R. Kent Wilson officiating. Burial followed at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Amenia.
