Otto Mahn

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. — Otto Mahn, 75, a resident of the town of Beekman, died March 24, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, as a result of complications of an aortic aneurism.Born on Aug. 15, 1935, in Hamburg, Germany, Otto was the son of Lotte and Franz Mahn. At age 15, while attending school in Germany, he began his formal training to become a butcher. After completing his training, he worked on cruise ships for several years.On a stop in New York, Otto was recruited by a restaurateur and made America his home in 1958. He started his own butcher business in Queens and later moved it to Brewster and then to Dutchess County. His East Fishkill Pork Store thrived as a result of his capable business management as well as his unfailing commitment to quality and topnotch customer service. He sold the business and retired in 2006.Otto married Melitta Klinger, who survives at home, on Nov. 26, 1961, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.An avid sailor and hunter, Otto enjoyed the outdoors. He also passionately followed World Cup Soccer and was active in the Elks Club and the Germania Society.In addition to his wife, Otto is survived by his daughter, Susan Cooper, and her husband, Gary, of Pine Plains; his son, Michael, and his wife, Barbara, of Hopewell Junction; his two grandchildren, Justin and Michael Cooper of Pine Plains; his two sisters, Christa and Marga, both in Germany; and many close friends who were blessed to know him.The Mahn family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Millbrook Rescue Squad and all the nurses and doctors at Sharon Hospital and St. Francis Hospital.

The Mountaineers are the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoff bracket.
