Patriots are favorite over San Francisco

Last week, 10-6; for the season, 127-77. Pick of the Week, 1-0; for the season, 8-6.

I can live with 10-6, but there were three home teams that I was truly surprised to see get beat — my Steelers losing to the Chargers at home, the Bills losing to the Rams and the Bucs losing to the Eagles. I did, however, get back in the win column with my Pick of the Week, the Colts. My editor’s pick of the Eagles also came in, so I’m still trailing two games behind him for the season.

With just three regular season games yet to be played, it’s amazing to think that only three of eight divisions races have been decided, and just one of the four wild card berths. Parity is in and each week seems to provide more upsets and surprises.

With that said, let’s get on with this week’s games. Good luck with your picks!

Thursday, Dec. 13

Cincinnati at Philadelphia

The Eagles are coming off a big win over the Bucs, while the Bengals lost a heartbreaker to the Cowboys. At this point in time the Eagles are out of it while Cincy is still alive, so I’ll go with the Bengals even on the road, 27-23.

Sunday, Dec. 16

NY Giants at Atlanta

The bubble has burst for the Falcons, and they have clinched their division, while the Giants are in a must-win situation. New York is very unpredictable but they usually come through at this point in the season, so I’ll stick with the G-Men, 33-27.

Green Bay at Chicago

I don’t like to go against the Packers at this stage of the season. The Bears at home are always tough, but this game is more about Aaron Rodgers over Jay Cutler. I’ll take the Packers in this one, 24-19.

Washington at Cleveland

The uncertainty of RGBIII weighs heavily on this game. With him the Redskins are tough as nails, but without him there might very well be a different story. The Browns are playing extremely well of late, and I expect that to continue. Cleveland wins this one, 23-20.

Minnesota at St. Louis

If the Vikings have any chance of getting to the playoffs it will be up the the legs of Adrian Peterson. The Rams are playing better but they just don’t score enough points. I look for the Vikings to prevail in this one, 23-19.

Jacksonville at Miami

Neither team is going to make the playoffs, but the Dolphins are clearly the better team. I’ll stick with Miami in this one, 24-13.

Tampa Bay at New Orleans

Both of these teams are coming off a loss and neither seems destined to make the playoffs. I’ll stick with Drew Brees and the boys at home, 34-24.

Denver at Baltimore

The Broncos are in the playoffs while the Ravens are probably in as well. This is a big test for the Broncos and Peyton Manning, and I think they’ll pass it with flying colors. Denver prevails in this one, 31-27.

Indianapolis at Houston

Now we will get to see just how good Andrew Luck and the Colts really are. He is good, but the Texans are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Patriots and will be fired up to turn things back around for the home fans. Luck will impress, but not enough. Texans win this one, 29-24.

Detroit at Arizona

It’s been a tough year for both teams. The Cards have QB troubles while the Lions have just plain been snake bit. I look for the Lions to play well in this one and come away with a 30-19 victory.

Carolina at San Diego

I’m not sold on either team, but it looks to me like Cam Newton and the Panthers are finally starting to gel. The Chargers always seem to play better in the second half of the season, but I’m not buying into it. Carolina wins on the road, 33-27.

Seattle at Buffalo

The Bills will play tough, but this is a huge game for the Seahawks. I’ll stick with Seattle in this one even though they don’t play very well on the road. Seahawks win, 24-23.

Pittsburgh at Dallas

This is a make or break game for both teams. I’m a Steeler fan so I can’t pick against them, especially because the Cowboys are just 3-3 at home. Big Ben and the Steelers prevail in this one, 24-17.

Kansas City at Oakland

It is kind of sad to think that these two proud franchises have slid so far from their respective glory years in the old AFL. I have to pick someone, so I’ll stick with the home team. Raiders prevail, 27-23.

San Francisco at New England

Beware 49ers, these Patriots are running on all cylinders. However, the Patriots have clinched their division, but the home field advantage is still within their grasp. I’ll take the Pats in this one as my Pick of the Week. New England wins, 30-20.

Monday, Dec. 17

NY Jets at Tennessee

I know the Jets are still alive in the playoff hunt, but I hope that comes to an end this week. I’ll go with the upset in this one. Titans win, 23-20. Editor’s note:  The Jets win, 28-17.

Busking in the Berkshires
Brent McCoy of Secret Circus Show at Berkshire Busk!
Roman Iwasiwka

While playing outside in the early post-pandemic days, Berkshire Busk! founder Eugene Carr had an epiphany: why not expand the idea of performing on the street (aka busking)into a full-fledged festival in Great Barrington?

As an entrepreneur and cellist, Carr envisioned a well-organized jamboree featuring regional talent, including musicians, acrobats, storytellers, fire-eaters, and more. He formed a team, connected with local businesses and the town of Great Barrington, and launched Berkshire Busk! in 2021. Since then, Berkshire Busk! has grown into a summer staple for Great Barrington.

'Sylvia' brings heart, humor and one unforgettable dog to Sharon Playhouse stage
Jonathan Walker as “Greg” and Jen Cody as “Sylvia”in rehearsal at The Sharon Playhouse.

What if the dog onstage was played by a person? That’s the delightful twist in A.R. Gurney’s “Sylvia,” opening at the Sharon Playhouse on Aug. 29. In this clever and heartfelt comedy, the title character — a stray pup who disrupts the lives of a married couple — is portrayed not in costume but by an actor who brings insight, charm, and chaos to the role.

Stepping into Sylvia’s paws is Jen Cody, who is returning to the Sharon Playhouse in a starring role for her third year in a row, ready to bring this spirited dog to life. She’s joined by Jonathan Walker as Greg, the middle-aged man smitten with his new four-legged friend, and Jennifer Van Dyck as Kate, his wife, whose patience and identity are tested by Sylvia’s sudden presence in their home.
