BARKHAMSTED — It was a short but sweet Fourth of July celebration, with the town holding a parade on Monday morning, July 4.The parade, sponsored by the Barkhamsted Lions Club and held in the Pleasant Valley section of town, featured plenty of marchers, both young and old.Willard Minton organized the Star Band, which provided both parade music and music during concluding ceremonies at Barkhamsted Elementary School.“This is the greatest day for our town,” Minton said. “Every year we all see everybody in smiles. As for the band, this is all a pickup band and we haven’t played together before. It’s wonderful that we all sound like we’ve been performing together for years.”Paula Sander, who’s daughter, Jana, marched in the parade, arrived early to help set up festivities. “It’s the time of the year that the whole town comes together,” Sander said. “It is really nice that all cross sections of town get represented, from the Boy and Girl Scouts to the local sports teams. I’m glad that the town does this.”
