Philip 'PJ' Bialoglowy II

THOMASTON — Philip “PJ� Bialoglowy II, 39, died Feb. 11, 2010.

Born in Waterbury on Sept. 23, 1970, he was the son of Margaret Robinson and Philip John Bialoglowy. He grew up in Litchfield and had attended the University of New Haven and later completed his bachelor’s degree while working as a police officer for the Winsted Police Department. An officer since 1997, PJ was a member of the ERT Team and the Northwest Regional Accident Investigation team. He was a certified reconstructionist and the union president.

A 20-year member of the Litchfield Fire Department, PJ had also been involved with the Litchfield Ambulance and had been a paramedic for Campion Ambulance. He was a coach and mentor for Overlook Sports Association in Waterbury.

In addition to his parents, PJ is survived by his son, Drew Bialoglowy; stepdaughters, Jessica and Sarah Lynn, and their mother, Karen Bialoglowy; a brother, Keith Bialoglowy and his fiancee, Danielle LaFleur; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; his brothers- and sisters-in-law; his mother-in-law, Joan Brown; his father’s fianceé, Valerie Jo Gavagan; and his godparents, Barbara Chabot and Richard Bialoglowy.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Feb. 15 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Litchfield. Burial followed in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington. Rowe Funeral Home, Litchfield, has care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Drew Bialoglowy Educational Fund, in care of First National Bank of Litchfield, PO Box 578, Litchfield 06759.

NORTH CANAAN — Steve Blass Little League AAA baseball opened the 2024 season on Saturday, April 27, with an afternoon match between the Giants and Red Sox.

The Giants stood tall and came out on top with a 15-7 win over their Region One counterparts, the Red Sox. Steve Blass AAA teams are composed of players aged 9 to 11 from Cornwall, Kent, Falls Village, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury and Sharon.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

Hotchkiss students team with Sharon Land Trust on conifer grove restoration

It was a ramble through bramble on Wednesday, April 17 as a handful of Hotchkiss students armed with loppers attacked a thicket of buckthorn and bittersweet at the Sharon Land Trust’s Hamlin Preserve.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
