Police Report

The following information was provided by the Millerton Police Department. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 Assault and DWI charges

On Tuesday Nov. 12, at approximately 9 p.m., there was a disturbance outside the town of North East Town Hall while the Town Court was in session. The disturbance could be heard from inside the courtroom and Officer David Rudin from the Millerton Village Police Department, who was on duty at the court, was advised there was a fight outside.

The disturbance was heard from the firehouse and the Dutchess County 911 Center was also contacted by members at the firehouse. Deputy Ryan Griffin and Deputy Mark Catuzza were dispatched to assist Rudin at the scene. It was alleged that 30-year-old Chris McGhee, a Millerton resident, started a fight with Roy Bronson, a resident of Sharon, Conn. The Millerton Rescue Squad was called to the scene to attend to injuries that Bronson received at the scene. Bronson was transported by the Millerton Rescue Squad to Sharon Hospital.

Witnesses advised that there was an argument between McGhee and Bronson, shortly after they left the courthouse. They had just appeared before the Honorable Judge Casey McCabe in court. It was alleged during the court proceeding that McGhee’s dog had bitten Bronson.

McGhee was arrested for assault in the third degree, a Class A misdemeanor. He was arraigned by the Honorable Judge John Crodelle. The matter returned to court for further proceedings on Nov. 19.

On Sunday, Nov. 17, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Officer David Rudin stopped a vehicle for a minor traffic violation. After further investigation, it was believed that the operator of the vehicle, 22-year-old Jorge Lopez of Millerton, was driving while intoxicated. Lopez was taken into custody and brought to the Millerton Police Station. A breath test was administered by Officer Rudin at the Millerton Police Station. Lopez was charged with failing to properly signal a turn and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, both traffic violations. He was also arrested for driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol of 0.08 percent or more, both misdemeanors.

Lopez was released and will appear before the town of North East Justice Court on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.

Siglio Press: Uncommon books at the intersection of art and literature

Uncommon books at the intersection of art and literature.

Richard Kraft

Siglio Press is a small, independent publishing house based in Egremont, Massachusetts, known for producing “uncommon books at the intersection of art and literature.” Founded and run by editor and publisher Lisa Pearson, Siglio has, since 2008, designed books that challenge conventions of both form and content.

A visit to Pearson’s airy studio suggests uncommon work, to be sure. Each of four very large tables were covered with what looked to be thousands of miniature squares of inkjet-printed, kaleidoscopically colored pieces of paper. Another table was covered with dozens of book/illustration-size, abstracted images of deer, made up of colored dots. For the enchanted and the mystified, Pearson kindly explained that these pieces were to be collaged together as artworks by the artist Richard Kraft (a frequent contributor to the Siglio Press and Pearson’s husband). The works would be accompanied by writings by two poets, Elizabeth Zuba and Monica Torre, in an as-yet-to-be-named book, inspired by a found copy of a worn French children’s book from the 1930s called “Robin de Bois” (Robin Hood).
