Police Report

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Near miss

On May 28 at about 12:45 p.m., Allen J. Knarr, 55, of Carmel, Maine, was driving his 2014 Honda motorcycle southbound on Route 7 in North Canaan. As he approached the intersection with Route 126, Charles Vincent Gardon, 49, of Wethersfield was approaching the same intersection westbound on Route 126 in his 2016 Volvo XC60.

Gardon stopped at the stop sign. Knarr entered the intersection. Gardon also entered the intersection, directly in front of Knarr. Knarr swerved to avoid the Volvo, dumping his vehicle in the process

The motorcycle sustained minor scrape marks on its right side. It never made contact with the Volvo, so the Volvo was undamaged. Neither Knarr, Gardon, nor Gardon’s passenger, Andrew Gardon, 14, of the same address, sustained any injuries. Gardon was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Stopped to turn

On May 29 at about 4 p.m., Latha M. Srinivasan, 44, of Princeton, N.J., was driving her 2014 Acura MDX eastbound on Interlaken Road (Route 112) in Lakeville. Behind her, Michael Co, 31, of Hamden, Conn., was driving his 2006 Toyota Corolla in the same direction.

Just before the intersection with Sharon Road (Route 41), Srinivasan stopped in the roadway prior to making a left turn into The Hotchkiss School. Co was unable to stop, and the Toyota struck the Acura in the rear bumper area.

Neither driver was injured. The Acura sustained minor damage to the rear bumper area, and the Toyota sustained functional damage to the front bumper area. Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Co was issued an infraction for following too closely.

Exiting roadway

On May 30 at about 9:15 p.m., Alice E. Marks-Koshar, 69, of Ashley Falls was driving her 2008 Toyota Prius northbound on South Canaan Road (Route 7) in North Canaan. Near the intersection with Sand Road, the vehicle exited the roadway on the eastern side and struck a rock.

The vehicle sustained minor damage. Marks-Koshar was evaluated on the scene by North Canaan EMS and refused further medical treatment. She was issued a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Walls still surprise me. If you look hard enough, you can find buried treasure.
Marge Parkhurst

After nearly 50 years of painting some of Litchfield County’s oldest homes and landmark properties, Marge Parkhurst has developed an eye for the past—reading the clues left behind in stenciled vines, forgotten bottles and newspapers tucked into walls, each revealing a small but vivid piece of Connecticut history.

Parkhurst was stripping wallpaper in a farmhouse in Colebrook — the kind of historic home she has spent decades restoring — when she noticed something odd. Three layers of paper had already come off — each one a different era’s idea of decoration — and beneath them, just barely visible under dull, off-white plaster, a pattern emerged.
