Police Report

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

 

DUI

On July 4 at approximately 3:45 a.m., troopers from Troop B responded to the area of Elm Street (Route 7), just south of the intersection with Route 44 in North Canaan, to investigate a report of a disabled motor vehicle. Upon arrival, they observed Kevin Steven Barnosky, 19, of Watertown asleep behind the wheel of the running vehicle, which was parked in a hazardous position obstructing the northbound travel lane of Elm Street.

Barnosky was requested to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which he failed. At 4:15 a.m., he was arrested and charged with operation of a motor vehicle by a minor having elevated blood alcohol content and improper parking. He was held in lieu of a $500 non-surety bond and given a court date of July 18.

Assault

On July 4 at approximately 6:45 p.m., troopers from Troop B responded to a 911 call reporting an active assault between two men on Railroad Street in North Canaan.

The victim was transported by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital. Skyler Andrew Gilpatric, 21, of Swansboro, N.C., was arrested and charged with second -degree breach of peace — assaulting or striking another, second-degree assault — causing serious physical injury with intent, second-degree strangulation and first-degree unlawful restraint. He was held in lieu of a $50,000 surety bond and given a court date of July 17.

Accident under investigation

On July 9 at approximately 10:45 p.m., Samuel Williams, 17, of North Canaan was driving a 2009 Nissan Sentra registered to  Alison Williams of Norfolk westbound on Lime Rock Road in Salisbury. The vehicle crossed through the eastbound lane, crossed the left shoulder and collided with a street sign and a large tree.

Williams was transported by Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service to Sharon Hospital, and then by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital, for life-threatening injuries. His passengers, Dante Wright, 16, of  Lakeville and Nicholas T. Frank-Tedesco, 18, of Amenia, were transported to Sharon Hospital for minor injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic varsity baseball and softball teams hosted Mountaineers of years past for alumni games Saturday, May 17.

Grads ranged from the Class of 1988 to the Class of 2024. Alumni teams won both games, 17-3 in baseball and 7-4 in softball.

Health dept. clears BD to reopen facility after hazmat scare
Cones and warning signs remain present at Grace Way in North Canaan Saturday, May 17, but as of 3 p.m. the facility was cleared to resume normal operations.

Following two days of closure due to a hazmat incident, the BD facility in North Canaan was cleared to resume normal operations on Saturday, May 17.

North Canaan First Selectman Brian Ohler provided an update at 3 p.m. stating day two culture tests of the substance that was sent to BD showed "no growth." Lab tests yesterday were negative for Anthrax, Burkholderia Species, Plague, Tularemia, Smallpox and Ricin.
