Railroad Days is on track

NORTH CANAAN — The North Canaan Railroad Days will be held from July 8 to 17. There will be entertainment, food, tag sales and games sponsored by North Canaan businesses. Some of the events are highlighted below. The Commerford’s Carnival at Lawrence Field will be from July 8 to 10. There will be carnival rides, games, a petting zoo and elephant and camel rides. Food will be sold by Kristen Marie’s and the Northwest Detachment Marine Corps League to benefit its scholarship fund.The Canaan Fire Company will sponsor bingo at the Lawrence Field Pavilion July 13 to 15 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. St. Joseph Church’s annual tag sale will be held Friday, July 15, from 9 to 3 p.m. at the Bitterman Center. Later that day, the Connecticut Railroad Historical Association will sponsor a chicken barbecue fundraiser at Canaan Union Station from 5 to 8 p.m. . Adults eat for $12 and children under 5 eat for free. The proceeds will go to the rebuilding of the Canaan Union Station.On Saturday, July 16, at 6 p.m. the Canaan Fire Company will hold its annual fireman’s parade. Boy Scout Troop 22 will sell glow rings at dusk to prepare for the fireworks sponsored by the Canaan Chamber of Commerce and the town of North Canaan.The Canaan Family YMCA is sponsoring the Canaan 5-Mile Road Race on July 17. The race will begin at Lawrence Field Pavilion at 9 a.m. . There is a 5-mile run/walk as well as 2- and 1-mile options. The Mountaineers are the highest seeded team of the four schools remaining in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class S playoff bracket.
