NORTH CANAAN — The North Canaan Railroad Days will be held from July 8 to 17. There will be entertainment, food, tag sales and games sponsored by North Canaan businesses. Some of the events are highlighted below. The Commerford’s Carnival at Lawrence Field will be from July 8 to 10. There will be carnival rides, games, a petting zoo and elephant and camel rides. Food will be sold by Kristen Marie’s and the Northwest Detachment Marine Corps League to benefit its scholarship fund.The Canaan Fire Company will sponsor bingo at the Lawrence Field Pavilion July 13 to 15 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. St. Joseph Church’s annual tag sale will be held Friday, July 15, from 9 to 3 p.m. at the Bitterman Center. Later that day, the Connecticut Railroad Historical Association will sponsor a chicken barbecue fundraiser at Canaan Union Station from 5 to 8 p.m. . Adults eat for $12 and children under 5 eat for free. The proceeds will go to the rebuilding of the Canaan Union Station.On Saturday, July 16, at 6 p.m. the Canaan Fire Company will hold its annual fireman’s parade. Boy Scout Troop 22 will sell glow rings at dusk to prepare for the fireworks sponsored by the Canaan Chamber of Commerce and the town of North Canaan.The Canaan Family YMCA is sponsoring the Canaan 5-Mile Road Race on July 17. The race will begin at Lawrence Field Pavilion at 9 a.m. . There is a 5-mile run/walk as well as 2- and 1-mile options. This is Murray, a 5.5 year old Clumber Spaniel who is 60lbs of fun! He lives in Lakeville and can often be seen hiking Dark Hollow Road. Fun fact: he sits on the bench looking out the front window just to make sure we always come home. Works every time!
"Beni" - "Super Mutt" loved by Roxanne and Scott Bok

Beignet “Beni” came to Roxanne and her husband, Scott, 2 years ago at 6 years of age. She is 8 different breeds, including “super mutt” - which is an actual category - but seems to identify as mostly terrier. She was originally rescued from a shelter in Louisiana, spent some time in foster with a FL veterinarian before coming to them. They had a rough first few months as she was fear-aggressive, especially regarding other dogs, but is still gaining confidence and trust. She is crazy for the woods and loves nothing better than digging for chipmunks in holes. They love her deeply and have learned the rich rewards of adopting. "Beni" lives in Salisbury, CT.
