Railroad Days is on track

NORTH CANAAN — The North Canaan Railroad Days will be held from July 8 to 17. There will be entertainment, food, tag sales and games sponsored by North Canaan businesses. Some of the events are highlighted below. The Commerford’s Carnival at Lawrence Field will be from July 8 to 10. There will be carnival rides, games, a petting zoo and elephant and camel rides. Food will be sold by Kristen Marie’s and the Northwest Detachment Marine Corps League to benefit its scholarship fund.The Canaan Fire Company will sponsor bingo at the Lawrence Field Pavilion July 13 to 15 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. St. Joseph Church’s annual tag sale will be held Friday, July 15, from 9 to 3 p.m. at the Bitterman Center. Later that day, the Connecticut Railroad Historical Association will sponsor a chicken barbecue fundraiser at Canaan Union Station from 5 to 8 p.m. . Adults eat for $12 and children under 5 eat for free. The proceeds will go to the rebuilding of the Canaan Union Station.On Saturday, July 16, at 6 p.m. the Canaan Fire Company will hold its annual fireman’s parade. Boy Scout Troop 22 will sell glow rings at dusk to prepare for the fireworks sponsored by the Canaan Chamber of Commerce and the town of North Canaan.The Canaan Family YMCA is sponsoring the Canaan 5-Mile Road Race on July 17. The race will begin at Lawrence Field Pavilion at 9 a.m. . There is a 5-mile run/walk as well as 2- and 1-mile options. Man, 60, dies in single-car crash on Route 272 in Norfolk

Norfolk fire and ambulance crews responded to a one-vehicle crash on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

NORFOLK — A 60-year-old Oregon man is dead after a single-car crash Friday, Nov. 14, according to Connecticut State Police.

Kevin Scott, of Portland, was driving a Ford Escape southbound on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) when he exited the roadway while negotiating a curve and struck a utility pole. The Ford rolled onto its side and the airbags deployed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no passengers in the car.

GNH collides with Holy Cross

WINSTED — Holy Cross High School won 36-20 against the Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team Saturday, Nov. 15.

The hard-fought contest was won in the air. Holy Cross QB Brady Lombardo completed 16/31 passes for 309 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.
