Return of the native: Attorney opens practice in hometown

KENT — Attorney Metta Rehnberg Delmore has returned to her hometown to open an elder law practice at 11 Bridge St.

Delmore grew up at Kent Hollow Farm, which is still owned by her parents, Chris and Jennie Rehnberg.

She is named after her grandmother, who was one of the original owners of the farm along with her grandfather, Harry Rehnberg.

Delmore graduated from the Kent School in 1994 and has fond memories of growing up here.

“I played youth hockey and town league hockey when I was a kid,†she reminisced.

She and her husband, Jonathan, have three children and live in Warren.

As for her decision to practice law, she said,“I’ve always been interested in law and the legal system, probably because my father was a police officer. I was brought up with ideas of what is right and wrong. I studied United States history in college, and going to law school seemed like a natural fit for me.â€

She received her bachelor’s degree in history and government from Connecticut College in 1998.

In 2001, she earned her degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law.

After she graduated from law school, she joined an elder law practice, Barbara Reynolds LLC, in New Milford.

“When I was in law school, for my internship, I worked at the Department of Public Health,†she said. “I saw what was happening to the elderly and I helped to prosecute nurses and aids who abused or did not take care of their clients. I realized from that experience that the elderly need an advocate.â€

She helps her clients with, among other things, estate planning, wills and trusts, trust administration, conservatorships, probate and estate administration.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
