Robert John Russin

MILLERTON — Robert John Russin, 89, died at his home in Millerton on Oct. 8, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born April 2, 1928, in Watertown, Conn., he was the husband of Patricia (Prescott) Russin, who predeceased him earlier this year. They were married for 67 years.

Bob was a dairy farmer. In 1968 he moved his home farm from Watertown to Millerton, where he continued to farm.

He retired from the farm business in 1988. His son, Jack, continued the family business in Madison, N.Y.

Bob was active throughout his life in many organizations. He served on the Dairy Committee and was the Hudson Valley Farm Credit Director, and served in local politics as a Town Board member for 12 years and town supervisor for two years.

In retirement, Bob and Pat spent time together traveling to different countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scotland, England, Wales, Holland, France, Italy, Ireland and Finland.

For hobbies, Bob took care of his gardens. He had a vegetable garden, fruit trees and 6 acres of lawn to care for.

Bob was a private pilot and loved to be flying in his plane.

The one thing he loved more than flying was his family.

Bob is survived by his son, John Robert Russin and his wife, Lesa, of Madison; his daughter, Jane Pamela (Russin) Frank of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and James Bradford Russin and his wife, Lois, of Sharon; and his sister, Bernice (Russin) Elwood of Watertown. Bob had four grandchildren, John Scott Russin, Allison Russin Curley, Catlynn Patricia Frank and Jameason Robert Russin; and several great grandchildren, Casey, Sara, Megan, Dylan, Bailey, Caroline, Nathaniel and Gabriel.

In addition to his wife, Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Phyllis Ann Russin.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has charge of arrangements.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.

The weekend of Homecoming at HVRHS was packed with events including rival games under the lights, senior night, and a new take on Homecoming that moves it outside — and it wouldn’t have been possible without the students of Housatonic.

Orchestrating was no easy feat, especially considering much of the work was left up to the students.
