Roundup of Sharon bridge scores

SHARON — On July 29, there were six-and-a-half tables for duplicate bridge at St. Bernard’s Church on New Street. Using the Mitchell movement and four boards a round, North South pairs played 28 boards and East West pairs played 24 boards. The average score was calculated by the computer to be 70, each way. 

For North South pairs, in first with 87 points (62.14 percent)were Jane Garmey and Emily Soell. Second, third and fourth places, separated by one point, 72.5, 72.0 and 71.5 (51.79 percent, 51.43 percent, and 51.07 percent) were Norma Bartholomew playing with Tom Burke, John Bevan playing with Harry Hall, and Emily and Billy Saster. 

For East West pairs, in first with 78.17 points (55.84 percent) were Gail and Alan Gamble; in second with 77.58 points (55.41 percent) were Susan Lambrecht and Ken Clark, and in third with 72.92 points (52.09 percent) were Trish Stimpson and George Mason.

On Aug. 5, there were seven full tables for duplicate bridge. With three boards a round, all pairs played 21 boards with an average score of 63, making it a short day.  

For North South pairs, in first with 77 points (61.11 percent) were Norma Bartholomew and Tom Burke; in second with 68 points (53.97 percent) were Trish Stimpson and John Bevan, and in third with 67.5 points (53.57 percent) were Lily Beck and Harry Hall. 

For East West pairs, in first with 79 points (62.7 percent) were Ruth Adams and Kate Beatty; in second with 73.5 points (58.33 percent) were Susan Lambrecht and Ken Clark, and in third with 64.5 points (51.19 percent) were Alice Platt and David Bill.

There were eight and a half tables on Aug. 12. Playing three boards a round, for nine rounds, North South pairs played 27 boards and East West pairs played 24. The average score was 94.5.

For North South pairs, in first with 108 points (57.14 percent) were Terry Pastre and Betsy Clark; in second with 104.5 points (55.29 percent) were Pat Konecky and Bob Putz, and in third with 104 points (55.03 percent) were Carol Magowan and Harry Hall.  

For East West pairs, in first with 109.13 points (57.64 percent) were Catherine Brazelton and Ruth Adams; in second with 108 points (57.14 percent) were Kerry Noble and David Webber, and in third with 102.94 points (54.47 percent) were Jane Garmey and George Mason.

Man, 60, dies in single-car crash on Route 272 in Norfolk

Norfolk fire and ambulance crews responded to a one-vehicle crash on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

NORFOLK — A 60-year-old Oregon man is dead after a single-car crash Friday, Nov. 14, according to Connecticut State Police.

Kevin Scott, of Portland, was driving a Ford Escape southbound on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) when he exited the roadway while negotiating a curve and struck a utility pole. The Ford rolled onto its side and the airbags deployed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no passengers in the car.

GNH collides with Holy Cross

WINSTED — Holy Cross High School won 36-20 against the Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team Saturday, Nov. 15.

The hard-fought contest was won in the air. Holy Cross QB Brady Lombardo completed 16/31 passes for 309 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.
