Seniors Awarded Lightstat Scholarships

WINSTED — Lightstat, a manufacturer of energy management controls in Barkhamsted, awarded two $1,500 scholarships to Northwestern Regional High School senior Andrew Lawrence and Gilbert School senior Jason Rotondo at a luncheon Monday.

The William H. Scheremeta Scholarship for Electrical Engineering and Allied Science is named after the company’s current and longtime Chief Technical Officer William Scheremeta, in recognition of his contributions to the field of electronic temperature control. The scholarhsip encourages high school seniors to pursue a career in the field.

Lightstat President Ron Eigenbrod said he was pleased to honor Scheremeta and that he hopes to continue the scholarship award for many years.

Andrew Lawrence of New Hartford is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Lawrence. He is a National Honor Society member and a scholar-athlete at Northwestern. Lawrence is planning to attend the University of Vermont in the fall.

Jason Rotondo of Winchester Center is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Rotondo. He also received two Gilbert-sponsored scholarships. He is a longtime Eagle Scout and a Berkshire scholar-athlete. He will attend Western New England College in the fall.

Rotondo said he is specifically interested in electrical engineering.

“I’m going to college for undeclared engineering, but electrical engineering is my first choice,� he said.

Eigenbrod said he believes the advances made in electrical engineering and sciences are the foundation for growth in the United States and he hopes to encourage the future leaders of industry to master these areas.

“Our future job creation depends on it,� said Eigenbrod.
