State Police 8-27-15

The following information was provided by the New York State Police Troop K in Millbrook. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DWI arrest

On Saturday, Aug. 1, New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested Kristine A. Link, 42, of Hillsdale, for driving while intoxicated (DWI), resisting arrest, unlawful possession of marijuana and several vehicle and traffic offenses.

Troopers stopped the vehicle Link was operating on State Route 23 for speeding, failure to maintain lane and for having an inadequate brake lamp. While police interviewed Link, they observed clues that indicated she was intoxicated.

While attempting to place Link in custody for DWI, she physically resisted, police said. Following her arrest, she was found to be in possession of approximately 8.4 grams of marijuana.

 Link was arraigned before the town of Copake Court. She was released on her own recognizance and is schedule to reappear in Copake Court on Monday, Aug. 24.

DWAI arrest

On July 26, New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested Jennifer L. Licurse, 29, of Millbrook, for driving while ability impaired by drugs, a class E felony, due to a previous driving while impaired (DWI) related convictions.

 Troopers stopped the vehicle Licurse was operating on State Route 82 for speeding. While interviewing Licurse, troopers observed clues that indicated she was impaired by drugs.

 Additionally, a passenger in the vehicle, James R. Roberts, 30 years old, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree for unlawfully possessing suboxone.

 Licurse was charged with felony driving while ability impaired due to a previous DWI related conviction from 2010. A drug recognition expert evaluated Licurse and confirmed that she was impaired by drugs.

Licurse and Roberts were issued appearance tickets directing them to appear before the town of LaGrange Court.

 

Motorcycle accident

On Saturday, July 25, at approximately 12:46 p.m., New York State Police from the Livingston barracks responded to a reported motorcycle collision that occurred on Hunt Road in Hillsdale. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that Rose Curatello, 62, of Hillsdale, was operating a 1988 Honda motorcycle northbound on Hunt Road. Curatello lost control of her motorcycle, was ejected and subsequently struck a block retaining wall.

Curatello was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with severe internal injuries and head trauma.

State Police were assisted by Life Net, Community Rescue Squad and Hillsdale Fire Department. 

DWI arrest

On Sunday, July 19, New York State Police from the Dover barracks arrested Saturnino Caal Lopez, 44, of Dover, for aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

Troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to a one-car property damage auto collision on Mill Street in the town of Dover. An investigation revealed Caal Lopez was traveling westbound on Mill Street, exited the roadway and subsequently struck a utility pole. During the accident investigation, troopers observed clues that indicated Caal Lopez was intoxicated at the time of the crash. 

Caal Lopez provided a breath sample that yielded a blood alcohol content of .28 percent, more than three times the legal limit of intoxication. He was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear before the Town of Dover Court on Thursday, July 23.

Drug possession charges

On Sunday, July 12, New York State Police from the Dover Plains barracks arrested Alicia S. Scaperotti, 29, and Jeremy J. Gamache, 33, both of Dover, for criminal possession of marijuana fifth degree and unlawfully growing cannabis, both misdemeanors.

At 7:54 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call at a residence located on Gobblers Knob Road in the town of Dover. Upon arrival responding troopers subsequently found several potted marijuana plants growing inside and outside the residence. Gamache had fled on foot from the residence, but was later apprehended that same evening.

Pursuant to this investigation it was also discovered that a neighbor, Vincent Jones, 33, attempted to conceal physical evidence by taking a few of the marijuana plants from the suspect’s property. Jones was subsequently arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Gamache and Scaperotti were arraigned before the town of Dover Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $5,000 bond. Both are scheduled to reappear at the town of Dover Court at a later date.

Jones was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear before the town of Dover Court on Thursday, July 30.

DWI arrest

On July 13, New York State Police from the Dover barracks arrested Dawn C. Brooks, 44, of Dover, for driving while intoxicated, a class E felony.

Troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to a domestic incident in the town of Dover. Following an investigation conducted by responding officers, it was discovered that Brooks drove her vehicle in an intoxicated condition to speak with a family member.

Brooks was charged with felony driving while intoxicated when an investigation revealed that she was convicted of driving while intoxicated in 2012.

Brooks provided police with a breath sample that revealed a blood alcohol content of .10 percent and was issued traffic tickets to appear before the town of Dover Court on Thursday, July 16.

It was GNH’s fourth consecutive Turkey Bowl win against St. Paul and the final game for 19 GNH seniors.

The Kearcher-Monsell Gallery at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village is once again host to a wonderful student-curated exhibition. “Once Upon a Time in America,” ten portraits by New Haven artist Katro Storm, opened on Nov. 20 and will run through the end of the year.

“This is our first show of the year,” said senior student Alex Wilbur, the current head intern who oversees the student-run gallery. “I inherited the position last year from Elinor Wolgemuth. It’s been really amazing to take charge and see this through.”

Mini horses, big impact: animal learning center opens in Sheffield

Le Petit Ranch offers animal-assisted therapy and learning programs for children and seniors in Sheffield.

Le Petit Ranch, a nonprofit offering animal-assisted therapy and learning programs, opened in April at 147 Bears Den Road in Sheffield. Founded by Marjorie Borreda, the center provides programs for children, families and seniors using miniature horses, rescued greyhounds, guinea pigs and chickens.

Borreda, who moved to Sheffield with her husband, Mitch Moulton, and their two children to be closer to his family, has transformed her longtime love of animals into her career. She completed certifications in animal-assisted therapy and coaching in 2023, along with coursework in psychiatry, psychology, literacy and veterinary skills.
