Steam Vent begins 10th season

WINSTED — More than 200 musicians from the Northwest Corner and beyond have performed at the First Church of Winsted’s Steam Vent Coffee House concert series, which raises funds for the church and other charities, including the Open Door Soup Kitchen and the YMCA’s homeless shelter.

The series began its 10th season on Saturday, Sept. 8, with a show that featured performers of all ages — including show openers Ethan Newman, 9, and Riley Storrs, 12.

Also performing that night were Juan DeGuzman, Eric Paradine, Julian Sherwood and the band Dark Horse.

Co-organizer Debbie Storrs said , “I’m extremely grateful for all of the musicians who have donated their time and talent over the years to make this a successful event,” Storrs said. “This is a great way to pay it forward and also to keep music alive in the community.”

The next concert in the Steam Vent series is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. and at the church, 95 North Main St.

In the past, the church has used the funds to help out a village in Oaxaca, Mexico. For the past two years, the funds helped a school for children with multiple physical and emotional disabilities, Sol y Luna, located on the Yucatan peninsula in the city of Merida.
