Webutuck boys soccer faces defeat, girls soccer gains a win

WEBUTUCK — With the fall sports season underway, the Webutuck varsity boys soccer team suffered a loss following a home game against Marlboro High School on Friday, Sept. 20.

The Warriors faced off against the Marlboro Dukes. Competing with a total of 11 athletes and no substitutes, Webutuck Coach Kevin Doyle shared his pride in the team’s performance, particularly Van Edmundson, who made his seasonal debut on the field in the game against Marlboro.

Yet in spite of Webutuck’s outstanding performance, the Warriors were ultimately defeated by the Dukes with a final score of 1-0.

Meanwhile, the Webutuck varsity girls soccer team scored its first win of the season following a game against Pine Plains on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The home game was held under the lights of the soccer field behind the high school. Among some of the highlights of the team’s performance, Webutuck Coach Mark Moren praised the defense as players shut down attacks on the field and covered for each other when needed. Meanwhile, on the offense, the Lady Warriors moved the ball and put constant pressure on their opponents until they broke through in the second half.

“Great team effort by everyone,” Moren remarked.

Scoring for the Warriors, Madeline Lazarus made two goals while Joanna Voight and Olivia Farnham each made one assist. Competing as the Warriors’ goalie, Emily Thompson made nine saves while Alexandra Coons made seven saves for the Pine Plains Lady Bombers.

By game’s end, Webutuck won 2-0 over Pine Plains, bringing its overall season record to 1-7.
