Winsted Rec making up for Easter flop

WINSTED — Winsted residents hoping to bring their children to a massive Easter egg hunt were met with a bunny-sized flop at Pearson Middle School April 4, when rain forced about 20 children to search for eggs indoors.

A second attempt at a successful hunt is planned for this Saturday, April 11, according to Recreation Director Tricia Twomey, who noted that rainy skies are generally not conducive to a good turnout.

“Not everything goes over great the first time, said Twomey, who became the town’s recreation director in January. “I guess you just learn. When in doubt, try again.

After last week’s rainout and low attendance, Twomey said she is increasing her promotional efforts this time around and is inviting all children to come to the Gaylord-Tiffany Playground Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. Twomey said the Easter bunny will try to find time in his busy schedule to meet local children with just hours to go before his Easter work begins.

If the event gets rained out, well, it just wasn’t meant to be.

Saturday’s gathering features an egg hunt and games for children of all ages. For more information, call the Winsted Recreation Department at 860-379-8670.
