Winter Social will benefit Cornwall Child Center

CORNWALL — A villa in Spain called Costa de Sol sounds good about now. So does a Florida gulf condo. Martha’s Vineyard in September would be something to look forward to.Folks will be dreaming of getaways and warmer days as they beat the winter chill with friends at the cozy evening that is the Winter Social hosted by the Cornwall Child Center. This is the third year of the pared-down annual auction fundraiser, and planners and guests are very pleased with the more relaxed approach.“We wanted to simplify and focus on the auction items that really gave us a return,” said Janet Sanders, who offered her renovated West Cornwall railroad depot home and office for last year’s social. “We had a wonderful turnout, and the board members who work so hard all year were able to enjoy their own party.”This year, the party is on March 2, 6 to 9 p.m. at the home of Gail and Jeff Jacobson. It will include savories and sweets, and specialty wine and beer.A full listing of items up for bid is on the center’s Facebook page. Up for luxurious grabs are an assortment of vacations in the U.S. and abroad, a beautiful local home that might be used for guests for a family reunion or such, a stay at a local inn and themed gourmet meals delivered to one’s door. Bidding will be live only. Professional auctioneer Ron Gantz, who is retired but does charitable events, will lead the bidding. Sanders said he is bringing some unique items for auction, including a Les Paul guitar, a guitar signed by The Sopranos and vintage band posters. Tickets are available in advance for $30 per person. They are $40 at the door. Couples are $50. Credit/debit cards will be accepted this year, along with cash and checks.
