FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Musical Theatre Society production of “Rip Van Winkle: The Musical!” wrapped up a four-performance run Saturday evening, March 16, at Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
Joshua Shakeshaft turned in a consistently strong performance in the demanding title role, as did Abigail Dodge as Dame Van Winkle.
“Rip Van Winkle” is a complicated show, with lots of scene changes, dance routines and sound effects. The performance was seamless and professional.
The gossipy women and the gnomes were crowd favorites, as was the song “This Man’s Wife.”
Mikael Gudmarsson (as the town constable) surprised the audience with a back flip in the second act.
The music and lyrics were written by Michael Berkeley, who directed and led the orchestra. (Berkeley also wrote the book with Ray Roderick.)
Lori Belter was the production manager and assistant director, and Amber Cameron was the choreographer.
