Catherine ‘Barbara’ Simmons

PINE PLAINS — Catherine “Barbara” Simmons, a longtime resident of Pine Plains, died May 12, 2015, at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Barbara was born on June 6, 1930, and is now reunited with her late parents, Frances M. (Dwyer) and Floyd W. Christy; her precious son, Thomas Wolven; and many other loved ones.

Barbara was the widow of Roswell M. Simmons. She was an amazingly strong woman who spent her life working hard and raising her family.  She will be greatly missed.

Barbara, an intelligent and spunky woman, was a proud member of the Pine Plains Fire Department for many years, and was always eager to help anyone in need. She happily shared her knowledge with anyone that she thought needed it — that is, unless NASCAR was on.  She was an avid fan who rarely missed “her” race.

She is survived by her four sons, Ricky Wolven, David Wolven, Steven Wolven and J. Peter Simmons; and four daughters, Christy Curran, Sheila Wolven, Tracy Wolven and Cathryn Hay; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held at Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Pine Plains on Thursday, May 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y., with her father and mother, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Animalkind, PO Box 902, Hudson, NY 12534.
