MILLRBOOK — The 22nd annual Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials held on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, offered many opportunities for families and friends to enjoy the equestrian events. Farm owners Fernanda Kellogg and Kirk Henckels welcomed a crowd of more than 500.
Kellogg, who served as a host and event coordinator, worked alongside Eric Hill to organize the weekend.
“I love the Millbrook countryside,” Kellogg said, “and I’m more than happy to give my farm to the community for the weekend so people can enjoy Millbrook at its best.”
Passionate about horses since the age of 10 and an equestrian herself, Kellogg watched as 270 horses galloped over her fields.
“I’ve never grown up,” Kellogg said.
Most riders in the competiton were from New Jersey to Maine, but also Texas and South Carolina.
There were 22 divisions with 22 winners, each receiving a blue ribbon, a Tiffany & Co. silver Julep Cup and other prizes.
The three main events were dressage, cross country and stadium.
New this year was the $2,000 Novice Masters Challenge, ponsored by Stubben North America. The winner, Rebecca Coffin Vickery, was from Stamfordville, riding Sir Zir. Along with the ribbon and Julep Cup, she won $1,000 and a custom Stubben saddle with a value of $5,000.
The winner of the Open Preliminary was Ferial Johnson from Boston, riding Bali Hai.
Junior winners included Alice Roosevelt, Millbrook, riding South Park in the Junior Training A categorty; Mia Coleman, Pine Plains, riding Downtown Getdown, Junior Training B; and Lizzie Chamberlain, Amenia, riding Theodora, Barbara Meyer Pony Club Award.

Besides the horse competition, Fitch’s Market featured 50 local shops and craftsmen. There were a food court, a collector car parade, a spectator luncheon to benefit the Millbrook Rescue Squad and the Blue Jean Ball.
The ball included an evening of dancing. This year’s theme was “Starry, starry night,” and guest attire evoked an essence of the south of France.
The primary sponsors of this year’s horse trials were Houlihan Lawrence Real Estate and Fresh Gourmet.
