MILLERTON — Nearing the end of an extensive planning process, the Comprehensive Plan Update Committee took its time in reviewing the third draft of the plan as well as its appendices at a workshop meeting on Tuesday, March 26.
Held at the Village Hall, the committee raised the idea of expanding the Climate Smart projects section of the plan. As chair of the joint Conservation Advisory Committee between the town of North East and the village of Millerton, Dianne Engleke suggested that the committee add another strategy to “encourage local government and community commitment to the three R’s of waste stream management: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.”
Along with deciding which maps should go into the main body of the plan and which should go into the appendix, the committee considered the timeline to release the 2019 draft of the plan to the public for comment.
As people are encouraged to view the plan online, Committee Chair Edie Greenwood reported that plans to have the documents available on the village of Millerton and the town of North East websites during the first week of April, and intends to email the documents to individuals who have registered on the town website’s blast email list. Full color hard copies of the plan and its appendix will be made available at the NorthEast-Millerton Library, Village Hall and North East Town Hall along with copies of the four-page executive summary.
“I applaud the hard work the volunteer Comprehensive Plan Update Committee has put in over the past two-plus years,” Greenwood said. “It has been a pleasure working with such a collegial group that brought an array of insights and expertise to the process.”
Come Saturday, April 27, the committee will hold an informational meeting about the plan in the NorthEast-Millerton Library Annex at 2 p.m. Planning consultant Nan Stolzenburg will make a presentation and the public will be encouraged to submit feedback and ask questions.
On Saturday, May 18, the committee will hold the required public hearing on the plan at 2 p.m. in the Annex. Following the hearing, committee members will meet again to make any necessary changes and finalize the document. The plan will then be presented to the North East Town Board and the Millerton Village Board, both of which will begin the adoption process toward of the final Comprehensive Plan.
