Cruiser crushed by truck

NORTH CANAAN — A trooper from State Police Troop B was expected to return to work this week after being injured Feb. 26 when a tractor-trailer smashed into the front of his cruiser in Norfolk.Trooper Robert Hazen was on duty and driving east on Route 44 in the center of town at about 7 a.m. Roads were wet and slippery. As he came around the sharp curve at the top of the hill, at the Route 272 intersection by the village Green, the rear of a tractor-trailer headed west slid across the center line into his path. The airbag in the 2007 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor deployed. Hazen, 35, was taken by ambulance to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with chest, neck and back pain. He was later released and has been recuperating at home. “He got banged up a bit,” said Troop B Commander Lt. Michael Davis, who is not allowed to give specifics of a trooper’s medical condition. “The car looks a lot worse.”The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 2001 Peterbilt registered to a Branford, Conn., company, was not injured. Jason Miller, 29, of New Haven was charged with traveling too fast for conditions and failure to maintain the proper lane. The trailer sustained moderate damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

I remember all the trips growing up going to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to see my grandparents. My grandfather, Bainbridge Dugazon, always had a pot of gumbo on the stove. The gumbo was shared with family and friends over a meal of crusty French bread and a crisp green salad. And don’t forget your favorite hot sauce — Tabasco, Louisiana Crystal — all available at Dugazon.
