Daniel C. Brazee Sr.

SALISBURY — Daniel C. Brazee Sr., 67, died May 3, 2015, at Hartford Hospital after a sudden illness. He was the husband of the late Laura (Van Doren) Brazee, who died in 2011.

Danny was born Nov. 17, 1947, at Sharon Hospital. He was the middle child of seven born to Kathleen Bell and David C. Brazee.

David was at that time a constable in the township of Salisbury. He was also the caretaker on Mount Riga. Danny grew up while following his Dad on “the mountain.” He will return to the mountain that he loved and cared for after serving his country.

Danny attended Housatonic Valley Regional High School and then Vietnam called him away. He served from January 1968 and was honorably discharged and received a Purple Heart in January 1970. He saw combat for 11 months and two weeks. He also spent two weeks in Thailand.

He came home again and was back on Mount Riga and the out-of-doors that he loved so much. Hunting and fishing were the hobbies Danny perfected throughout his life. Living off the land and helping people on the mountain gave Danny the peace he so deeply wanted and needed.

He later married the love of his life, Laura, and settled on Riga, where the family lives on.

Danny is survived by his three children, Daniel C. Brazee Jr. of Lime Rock, Peter D. Brazee of North Canaan and Carly E. Brazee of Salisbury; his sisters, Kathleen Morrison of Albany, N.Y., Elizabeth Brazee of Florida and Margaret DeVito of North Canaan; and a brother, Theodore E. Brazee of Salisbury.

A wake will be held at the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan on Friday, May 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at the Old Cemetery on Mount Riga on May 16 promptly at 10 a.m. Military honors will be given. Speakers are welcome.

A reception will be held after the burial at approximately noon at the Lakeville Hose Co. firehouse.
