Donald G. McClanahan

LAKEVILLE — Donald G. McClanahan, 64, passed away after a long illness on Aug. 12, 2018. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Ruth McClanahan, who died nine days prior on Aug. 3. 

Donald was preceded in death by his father, William McClanahan; and his ex-wife, Patricia McClanahan.

Don is survived by his brother, Michael McClanahan of Sun City Center, Fla., and his wife, Carol McClanahan; his children, Emily Petry and her husband, Robert, Blair Ackerman and her husband, Krystopher, Jeremiah and Noah McClanahan; his grandchildren, Anna, Sophia, Krystin and Kane; and two nieces and a nephew, Patrick McClanahan, Colleen McClanahan and Shannon Withrow.

Don graduated from Nitro High School in West Virginia in 1971. Don was a member of the TKE Fraternity and graduated from Morris Harvey College in 1975 with a B.A. in History.

Don taught history and coached football and tennis for approximately 25 years at Indian Mountain School in Lakeville. 

Don loved to hunt, cook and fish. He enjoyed good friends, good food, good wine and a good time.

A celebration of his life was held at Ridenour Park in Nitro on Aug. 17.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to Nitro High School, 1300 Park Ave., Nitro, WV.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
