Doris Elizabeth (Loper) Perotti

MILLERTON — Doris Elizabeth (Loper) Perotti, 94, died on Aug. 7, 2014. She was the loving widow of Frank S. Perotti Sr. Doris was born in Sharon, CT on June 21, 1920, to the late Hazel (Miller) and Clifford Loper.She graduated from Millerton High School in 1938 and was the senior class president and valedictorian. She was a homemaker and learned a lot of her skills from Mrs. Drumm of Millerton. Doris loved birds, plants, flowers and her vegetable gardening. She loved canning and freezing and making grape jelly from her grapes. She spent hours crocheting and doing embroidery. A big sports fan, she loved the New York Mets. She was an avid reader and was all about her family. Doris always made sure to take care of everyone even beyond family. She had a lot of influence on young kids who wanted to learn the trade of farming. She not only taught them the value of hard work but also welcomed them into her house, sharing family meals and having great conversations.Doris is survived by her five sons, John and his wife, Joan, Frank Jr. and his wife, Maura, Robert and his wife, Sue, James, and Charles and his wife, Jayne; her brother, Raymond Loper; her grandchildren, Kelly Galgano, Terry Perotti, Stephen Perotti, Tony Perotti, Nathan Perotti, Adam Perotti, Jaine Perotti, Audrey Perotti, Grace Perotti, Wendy Cady, Timothy Perotti, Pierce Perotti and Syndey Perotti; and several great-grandchildren.Doris was predeceased by her husband and parents; her sisters, Eva and Beatrice; and her brothers, Donald, Charles and Robert. Services were held Aug. 11 at Saint Patrick’s Church in Millerton. The Kenny Funeral Home, of Sharon has charge of arrangements.

GNH football wins third game in a row

WATERBURY — The Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team record improved to .500 after defeating Waterbury Career Academy 16-12 on Saturday, Nov. 8.

It was the third consecutive win for GNH. After bouncing back from a 1-4 start, the Yellowjackets moved into fourth place in Naugatuck Valley League standings.

FFA students return from Indianapolis with awards

A group of 18 Housatonic Valley FFA students, joined by two American Degree recipients, two chaperones and four advisors, took part in the 98th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.

The event brought together 73,000 FFA members from across the country to compete, learn and celebrate agricultural education.

I think most of us know that Veterans Day originated to commemorate the end of WWI on November 11, 1918.It was changed to honor veterans from all wars in 1954, but who are these folks?Some join the military to honor family tradition. Some are looking for order out of backgrounds that were ‘less than ideal’.I know two generals who joined the military to go to medical school, and they did.Whatever the reason, all knew that they were also serving something beyond their own ambitions.
