Drive-by shooting in Ashley Falls

SHEFFIELD/NORTH CANAAN — A drive-by shooting in the Ashley Falls section of Sheffield on Tuesday evening, May 12, left a local man injured and police looking for two suspects and their vehicle.

The Sheffield Police said the victim’s name is Joseph Race. He was described by the police only as a man in his 40s. According to the police report, he was shot in the stomach and the back at about 7 p.m. He was able to call 911 and give police a description of the car and its occupants (whom he said are two black men) before he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. No update on his condition is currently available.

No motive for the crime has been established.

Several Connecticut State Troopers were seen on Barlow Street in North Canaan throughout the evening, monitoring activity at a home owned by Christopher Jordano.

Jordano also owns the Sheffield house, at 30 Pine Lane, a deadend road off Clayton Road just north of the state line.

Jordano made a post on his Facebook page asking for help in finding the suspects. He described the victim as his friend and tenant. The car, he wrote, was silver with a rear spoiler and possibly an after-market exhaust.

Jordano was convicted of assault in 2008, and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

He was arrested in June 2014 on charges for a felony charge of attempt to commit criminal possession of a firearm and is awaiting trial.

Sheffield Police are being assisted in the investigation and the hunt for the suspects by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit, the Berkshire County Sheriff’s office and the Connecticut State Police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Sheffield Police at 413-229-8522.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.
