SHARON — The Sharon Board of Education spending plan for the coming year shows a slight decrease from this year’s budget. The board voted at its meeting on Monday, March 11, to submit the proposed budget to the Board of Finance for review.
The proposed education budget for Sharon shows total expenditures of $4,258,983, down from the current year’s budget of $4,259,472. The reduction amounts to $489.
Significant spending reductions were found in the computer software, hot water heater, air conditioning for the day care area, a retaining wall and office carpeting. Because the coming year will see teacher contract negotiations, the budget for legal fees increased by $13,500.
The Board of Education will discuss the budget with the Board of Finance at a joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen, scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, at Town Hall, beginning at 7 p.m., after this issue of The Lakeville Journal goes to press.
In other action, the annual tuition rate for non-resident students in 2019-20 was set at $9,000, unchanged from the current rate.
