Electricity on-off, on-off

KENT —  A power outage on April 6 impacted residents, businesses, Kent Center School and Town Hall. The trouble  began at around 9 a.m. with the electricity going off for almost two hours, according to First Selectman Bruce Adams.

“The power was still on at my house, but I live two miles from the town center, Adams said. “The whole town center itself had no electricity. The school did not dismiss anyone because most of the classrooms have windows. However, because most Town Hall departments are dependent on computers, we all pretty much had to do our work the old-fashioned way.

After the power came back on around 11 a.m., it went back off again from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

“Davis IGA started to scramble when it went off again because of their refrigerated food, Adams said. “But the power came back on just in time.

Mitch Gross, a spokesman for Connecticut Light and Power, said the outages had to do with a problem at a substation  in Kent.

He said the outage spread to other towns, including New Milford, Sherman, Warren, Goshen, Cornwall and Sharon.

“We had some equipment problems at the substation, Gross said. “At the outage’s peak, 3,900 customers were without power. It was all a matter of finding the problem and fixing it as quickly as possible.

Gross would not reveal what the problem was specifically, nor would he reveal where the substation is.

“We do not give out locations of our substations, Gross said.
