FFA fair schedule

PINE PLAINS — The FFA Fall Agricultural Festival will take place on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, at Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School. Parking and admission are free. Below is a schedule of events:

Friday, Oct. 11

9 a.m. — All exhibits, booths, livestock in assigned places. Section judging of rabbits, poultry, etc. Judging of all inside exhibits.

11 a.m. — Livestock conformation class(es).

11:30 a.m. — Dairy Show.                       FFA Dairy Showmanship after the dairy show.

Noon — Inside exhibits open to the public. Pine Plains Garden Club Flower Show.

3:30/4:30 p.m. — Weigh in for Lawn Tractor Pull/pull begins.

5 to 7 p.m. — Roast Beef Dinner at high school cafeteria; $15 per adult; $8 for children 10 years and younger; free for 3 years old and under.

Saturday, Oct. 12

9 to 3 p.m. — Pine Plains Garden Club Flower Show.

9 a.m. —  Line up for all parade participants at Seymour Smith Intermediate Learning Center.

9:30 a.m. — Parade (down Myrtle Avenue, right onto South Main Street, left at light onto Church Street (Route 199) and back to high school.

10 a.m. —  Horse Showmanship. FFA food booths open.

11 a.m. —  All exhibits open to the public. Pine Plains Championship Horse Pull. Chicken Barbecue by Pine Plains Hose Co. Livestock Showmanship.

11:30 a.m. — Dairy Showmanship.

2 p.m. — Pet Show.  Cow Pie Raffle.

There is a no smoking in school buildings or on school grounds.

Man, 60, dies in single-car crash on Route 272 in Norfolk

Norfolk fire and ambulance crews responded to a one-vehicle crash on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

NORFOLK — A 60-year-old Oregon man is dead after a single-car crash Friday, Nov. 14, according to Connecticut State Police.

Kevin Scott, of Portland, was driving a Ford Escape southbound on Route 272 (Litchfield Road) when he exited the roadway while negotiating a curve and struck a utility pole. The Ford rolled onto its side and the airbags deployed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no passengers in the car.

GNH collides with Holy Cross

WINSTED — Holy Cross High School won 36-20 against the Gilbert/Northwestern/Housatonic co-op football team Saturday, Nov. 15.

The hard-fought contest was won in the air. Holy Cross QB Brady Lombardo completed 16/31 passes for 309 yards with five touchdowns and one interception.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.
