Ghi wins state championship

FALLS VILLAGE — Housatonic Valley Regional High School student Dominic Ghi battled his way to a gold medal in the Class S state wrestling tournament on Friday, Feb. 18, and Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Sport and Medical Sciences Academy in Hartford.Ghi, the senior captain, defeated top-seeded wrestlers from Old Saybrook, Dean Tech and powerhouse Griswold to capture his first state title.Ghi’s success includes 115 varsity wins, two Berkshire League titles, two Derby Invitational titles and three third-place finishes in the Class S state tournament. He was also named Outstanding Wrestler at the Derby Invitational in 2008 and has received Housatonic’s Tyburski Award.Ghi’s recent win qualifies him for the State Open tournament, which will be held on Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26.Teammates Hannah Arel and Dom Sanchez also competed on Friday, Feb. 18, but lost their bids to advance to Saturday’s tournament. Eighth-seeded sophomore Tyler Spadaccini had to withdraw from the tournament after complications from asthma and a head injury.Congratulations and good luck to coaches Tom Medonis, Mike Spadaccini and all the Housy wrestlers.

Housy boys defeat Shepaug 1-0 in BL tournament semifinal

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
