Golf team ends a solid season

FALLS VILLAGE — Led by freshman Zim McAuliffe’s one over par 37 at Norfolk Country Club on May 20, the Housatonic Valley Regional High School golf team solidified a spot in the state tournament with its lowest score of the season.

Zach Ongley followed with a 43, Holden Marks with a 49 and Marcus Winburn with a 53. The next day Zach and Zim each shot 41 to lock in a top four team spot at the Berkshire League tournament.

The team capped a good season by competing in the state tournament June 3.  Housy went into the tournament ranked 17th and finished at 15th. McAuliffe led Housy with an 82, followed by Ongley at 83, Marks 109, Winburn 106 and Jace Tomaino 113.

On May 29 at the Berkshire League Tournament,  McAuliffe shot 81 and Ongley 83 to lead Housy to a second place finish. Both were named Berkshire League All-Stars. Marks shot 94, Winburn 102 and Tomaino 130.  The team was playing its best golf at the end of the season, showing the results of their hard work during the spring. These kids are good players but even better people and it has been a joy to coach them.
