Hugh deManbey

NORFOLK — Hugh deManbey, 56, died July 28, 2015.

Hugh was born July 13, 1959, and raised in Norfolk, residing with his parents, the late Lyndsay and Claire deManbey, and six siblings on Litchfield Road. 

He attended Botelle Elementary School, Indian Mountain School, Cranwell and Portsmouth Abbey while residing there. 

He also attended Saint Michael’s College and Central Connecticut State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy, and met his wife, Tina.

Hugh settled down and raised a family in Sandisfield, Mass., where he resided for the last 25 years.

Over the years, Hugh became a skilled master carpenter, working on the rejuvenation of many of the older homes in Norfolk as well as churches and other homes in surrounding towns. He took great pride in his work and tried to produce quality craftsmanship in all his works.

Hugh is survived by his brothers, David and Daniel deManbey; his sisters, Corky and Mary deManbey, Diane Duebber and Donna Boynton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hugh and his wife, Tina, were married for 27 years. He was the father of seven children, Hope, Cassandra, Samantha, William, Christian, Lyndsay and Maria deManbey. He became the grandfather of a baby girl, Camilla, in June. 

He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at noon at the Immaculate Conception Church in Norfolk. 

Following the memorial and burial services, there will be a reception in the church hall.

KENT — Residents now have access to around-the-clock food-scrap composting thanks to two newly installed organics “smart bins,” unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday morning, Dec. 1.

Rick Osborne, manager of the Kent Transfer Station, placed the first bag of food scraps into the smart bin located at 3 Railroad St. A second bin has been installed outside the Transfer Station gate, allowing 24/7 public access even when the facility is closed.

Cornwall selectmen prioritize housing, healthcare in new two-year goals

CORNWALL — Housing and healthcare topped the list of 15 goals the Board of Selectmen set for the next two years, reflecting the board’s view that both areas warrant continued attention.

First Selectman Gordon Ridgway and Selectmen Rocco Botto and John Brown outlined their priorities during the board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 2. On housing, the board discussed supporting organizations working to create affordable options in town, and Botto said the town should also pursue additional land acquisitions for future housing.
