As the summer season begins, we are revisiting and summarizing some of the ongoing issues that have captured our attention during the past year.
MILLERTON — The old Irondale Schoolhouse, located at the Millerton Main Street entrance to the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, will officially open its doors on Saturday, May 23, from 1 to 4 p.m.
This free, festive kickoff to the summer season will provide visitors a chance to learn about the schoolhouse’s history and enjoy “old-time country music” by Corey Bush and Friends. Sunday in the Country Food Drive’s “NASCAR” Dave MacMillan will be on hand serving sliders and hot dogs; there will also be iced tea and lemonade.
Those who attend can tour the fully restored one-room schoolhouse and see the original slate blackboards, student benches and old pot-belly stove. Children will be allowed to ring the school bell and draw with chalk on those old slate boards. Balloons will be handed out as well.
