It’s not trivial, if you care

SALISBURY — If you were asked to list 10 American cities with a population of more than one million, and you guessed Atlanta, Ga. — you’d be wrong.

And you would have been at SOAR’s trivia night at Noble Horizons on Friday, March 18.

SOAR (which stands for Seek, Originate, Aspire, Reach) is the after-school enrichment program at Salisbury Central School.

Brendan Reilly, middle-school social studies teacher, was the quizmaster, resplendent in a suit jacket over a Hawaiian shirt, and sunglasses not quite in the Elton John ca. 1975 category, but close.

The contest began with 10 logos of sports teams.

Most were readily recognizable — but there was one stinker, that of the Real Madrid soccer club.

A later round of 12 questions covered a wide range of topics:  who played Batman in the 1960s television series, what state is Area 51 in, and when was the blue M&M candy introduced?

A lightning round showed the cover art of 10 pop music albums. Some of the more mature members of the audience had to get up close to the screen to get a better look.

There were assorted snacks and pizza, so the teams of adults and children could keep their strength up.

The 10 cities are: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, San Diego and San Jose.

Adam West played Batman; Area 51 is in Nevada; the blue M&M made its debut in 1995.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

Students dressed in neon lined the soccer field for senior night under the lights on Thursday, Oct. 16. The game against Lakeview was the last in a series of competitions Thursday night in celebration of Homecoming 2025.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
