Jessica Lynn Pierzga


FALLS VILLAGE — Jessica Lynn Pierzga, 15, passed away at the Boston Children’s Medical Center on April 14, 2007 after a sudden illness.

Miss Pierzga was born in Sharon on May 3, 1991, the daughter of Maryann M. Decker and Joseph Francis Pierzga. She has a long list of accomplishments and activities, which include being an honor student and a second-degree black belt, scuba diving, shark diving, snowboarding, a second-year lacrosse and field hockey player, water skiing, shooting and ballet. She was also an active member of the Police Explorers for Troop B and participated in the local Daisies, Brownies and Girl Scouting programs.

Miss Pierzga was also an active traveler, having been to Alaska, Hawaii (to dive with mantas and dolphins), Bonair, the Bahamas (to dive with the sharks), the Florida Keys, Las Vegas and Yosemite. She had a tremendous love of animals and was well known for her kindness and consideration of others.

In additon to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Margo and Frank Pierzga, Constance Peck and William Decker; a great-grandmother, Mary Pierzga; many cousins; and several aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Lakeville. Burial will follow at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Cornwall Bridge.

A potluck reception will be held at the HVRHS cafeteria at 1:30 p.m. after the funeral.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the HVRHS scholarship fund, Warren Turnpike, Falls Village, CT 06031.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
