Kent Caboose celebrates holiday with Santa

KENT — As part of the ongoing holiday-themed exhibit “Blessings to all,†Santa Claus will appear at the Kent Caboose Gallery, 11 Railroad St., on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1  to 4 p.m.

“I wanted to bring some holiday cheer from the art world,†gallery owner Julie Butler said. “We’re offering art and handmade ornaments for the holidays. It’s great to get kids in here and for them to get an education in art.â€

The show includes paintings of local landmarks including the Kent First Congregational Church and Kent Station Square to beach paintings and metal sculptures of angels. Paul Arsenault, Keith Batten, Mary Hart, John McConnell and 14 other artists are featured.

“We also have paintings of nature landscapes,†Butler said. “We even have a painting on display called ‘Grass and leaves’ that features someone who looks like Santa Claus. I might give a prize to the first person who can tell me who the person in the painting really is.â€

The holiday art show will run until Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24. The Gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.

The weekend of Homecoming at HVRHS was packed with events including rival games under the lights, senior night, and a new take on Homecoming that moves it outside — and it wouldn’t have been possible without the students of Housatonic.
