Kent Kats offers medical assistance for furry friends

KENT — Tucked in the back of the Country Clothes store on Main Street are some furry felines who want to share their love with you. Carol Jalbert started Kent Kats eight years ago. The group helps spay and neuter stray cats and place them in homes.

The biggest problem that Jalbert has found is that cats are getting pregnant and reproducing as young as 5 months old, which is both unhealthy and unsafe. Their offspring are numerous and are not medically treated. The chances of these stray kittens finding a home are grim.

When someone calls in about a stray cat, Kent Kats will more often than not take the cat in and assist with spaying or neutering the animal.

“Sometimes the costs of this process can be expensive and we try and help by offering medical assistance.

Once all the medical work has been done, the person who called in the stray can either keep the animal or enter it on a waiting list for a shelter .

According to Jalbert, this is prime season for kittens, so getting a place in  a shelter can take months.

Some cats are even being abandoned because families cannot afford to take care of them any longer.

Jalbert does what she can and although she says Kent Kats is not a shelter, she takes in as many as she can while they wait to be moved to either a shelter or a home.

Many of these animals still need homes and have nothing but love to give. To make donations or to inquire about the cats, call Carol Jalbert at 860-927-1739.
