Letters to the Editor 12-17-15

Thanks for making holiday event shine

From the dance and theater program, to decorating trees, caroling, the parades, seeing Santa and mingling with friends and neighbors while enjoying refreshments, the Holiday of Lights celebrations in the town of Amenia were filled with merriment and fun due to the contributions of so many that we needed two letters!

To continue our wholehearted thanks to all those who contributed to the hamlets of Amenia and Wassaic Holiday of Lights, we would also like to thank the following businesses who donated gift certificates for the town of Amenia’s holiday of lights celebration:  Larry Havens, Metro Café, Monte’s Health Nut Hut, Page Home & Hardware, Ritchie’s Amenia Deli, Spa Nails, Santos, Studio 343, Voorhess Events and Tents and Yi Kitchen.

So much generosity is appreciated

Our wholehearted thanks to all those who contributed to the Amenia and Wassaic Holiday of Lights celebrations, with a special mention to Ritchie’s Amenia Deli, which donated 70 wedges placed into gift bags for all the participants in the parade. Unlike other towns where there is ample parking for vehicles so participants could enter Town Hall, in Amenia cars are unable to park and just have to drive on and go home. To these generous people, who gave their time and effort decorating the firetrucks, floats and vehicles that made our parade so special, we decided since they couldn’t come to the feast, we would bring the feast to them.

The following is a list of some of those who donated gift certificates for the town of Amenia’s Holiday of Lights celebration (others are thanked in Councilwoman Gretchen Hitselberger’s letter to the editor):  Amenia Steakhouse, Back-In-the-Kitchen, Bank of Millbrook, Black Eagle Currency & Coin, Cascade Spirit Shoppe, Drug World, Freshtown, The Hard Roll Express, Horse Leap, Jack’s Auto and Kelly & Company Hair Salon.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

Students dressed in neon lined the soccer field for senior night under the lights on Thursday, Oct. 16. The game against Lakeview was the last in a series of competitions Thursday night in celebration of Homecoming 2025.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
