MILLBROOK — Claire Martell, goalie for Millbrook’s girls lacrosse team, celebrated career save number 500 at the Wednesday, April 10, game against Saugerties. She made 10 additional saves in that game.
Coach Jillian Barnes praised the achievement, and said Claire is close to breaking the record.
“Taylor Goodwill, Class of ‘14, had 534 saves,” said Barnes, “and Martell is getting close to reaching the title belonging to Goodwill, the all time Millbrook save holder.”
At half time, Millbrook was behind by one goal, but played a much stronger game in the second half. The Blazers took home the win with a score of 5-4.
The defense, playing tough, allowed only four goals throughout, averaging 5.5 goals against for this season with Martell leading in the net.
Cat Halpin was responsible for two goals and one assist. Carrie Halpin, Ariana Radovic and Stephanie Williams each scored one goal.
Saugerties goalie B. Fisher had six saves, and goals were scored for Saugerties by Bucci (1), Munox (2) and Vazquez (1).
