Muriel Cary


SHARON - Muriel Cary, 97, of Main Street died at her home on Feb. 7, 2008. She was the wife of the late Francis L. Cary and Bernard Marshall.

Mrs. Cary was born in Mammoth Spring, Ark., on Sept. 10, 1910, the daughter of the late Virginia (Miller) and Jesse Gewin. She grew up in Little Rock, Ark., and later moved to Washington, D.C., where she was a secretary. She then moved to New York City, where she was a secretary for the United Nations and later became a research assistant for the Economic Social Council.

After 18 years of service in the U.N., she retired and moved to Sharon in 1969. For many years, she was a volunteer for Sharon Hospital and Sharon Audubon. She also was a longtime member of the Sharon Bridge Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret "Peggy Zavattini of Geneva, Switzerland; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was celebrated Feb. 12 at the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
