New art studio will open April 2

LAKEVILLE — Leslie Watkins of Norfolk will offer an art class at the Methodist Church parish house in Lakeville starting on Saturday, April 9, with a grand opening and reception Saturday, April 2, from 4 to 6 p.m.

In a phone interview Friday, March 18, Watkins (who may be familiar to some Salisbury residents after her talk on chickens at Town Hall on March 12) said the class and associated gallery are called Waterworks.

Watkins is sharing space with Small Fish Technologies, which runs a Maker Space program on Saturday mornings. Watkins’s classes will be in the afternoon, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

She said the group will start off with “basic watercolor classes, ongoing, and each month there will be a different theme.”

Watkins will have supplies for sale, and advises that people not buy anything beforehand “so they don’t spend money on the wrong stuff.”

“When we get better weather, we’ll go outside, do some plein air and nature journaling.”

In the fall, the class will move back inside and work on things like calligraphy and making handmade journals, with an eye toward creating unique Christmas gifts.

Tuition is $195 per month for four sessions.
