Peter Kuba Jr.

LAKEVILLE — Peter Kuba Jr., 53, of Chatfield Drive, died Jan. 20, 2016, at Sharon Hospital after being stricken at his home. 

Peter was born in Germany on March 6, 1963, the son of Anna L. (Hecker) and Peter Kuba Sr.

Peter and his parents left Germany when he was a year old. The family moved to the U.S. and took up residence on Long Island for three months. They then headed to Lakeville and made their home here. 

Peter attended the Berkshire School for his freshman and sophomore years of high school. While at the Berkshire School he played soccer and continued his passion playing ice hockey. He had previously skated for the Salisbury Youth Hockey Program. 

He transferred to Housatonic Valley Regional High School and finished his junior and senior years there, where he played soccer as well as football. 

Peter remained active and interested in sports, and continued skiing. He worked as a painter during the warmer weather and as a lift operator at Catamount Ski Area during the winter.

In addition to his mother and father, Peter is survived by his aunt and god-mother, Martha Lohr of Munich, Germany.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date. 

Memorial donations in Peter’s memory may be sent to the Salisbury Youth Hockey Program, P.O. Box 631, Lakeville, CT 06039. 

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
