Pink says: This has been a tough season!

Last week: 8-6; for season week: 84-60,

Pick of the Week: 1-0; for the season: 7-3

Picking winners in the NFL doesn’t seem to be getting any easier from week to week. How about those Giants? I told you to watch out for that game after Dallas changed their head coach. Tampa Bay, my Pick of the Week, covered nicely, but I never expected the Broncos to throw up 49 points against the Chiefs.

All 32 teams are back in action this week, so that means there is plenty of good action in store. Here’s how I see this week’s games.

Thursday, Nov. 18

Chicago at Miami — I don’t know the extent of the injuries to the Dolphins’ two quarterbacks, but even still, Miami is a good team, and I think they’ll find a way to win, 23-19.

Sunday, Nov. 21

Baltimore at Carolina — It continues to amaze me that Carolina coach John Fox still has a job. As for the Ravens, I don’t like them, but I’ll give them the nod, 24-16.

Buffalo at Cincinnati — Regardless of their stats, trouble seems to follow Randy Moss and T.O. The Bengals came into the year with aspirations of going deep into the playoffs but with the addition of T.O. have started the year 2-7. Buffalo finally won a game last week, so why not two in a row? I’ll take the Bills, 28-23.

Detroit at Dallas — The Lions won’t go easy, but I’ve got a feeling that the Cowboys are about to take off on a winning streak. I’ll stick with the Cowboys, 23-21.

Cleveland at Jacksonville — The Jags have quietly moved up the ladder in the AFC South, while the Browns are the best 3-6 team in the league. This is a tough game, but I’m going with my gut in this one. Browns win it, 20-16.

Arizona at Kansas City — I don’t think the Cards are going anywhere, while the Chiefs must rebound from last week’s shellacking by the Broncos. I think they will. Chiefs win, 24-20

Green Bay at Minnesota — Nobody is playing as poorly and inconsistently as Brett Favre. It’s a sad state of affairs in Minnesota. The Packers are still banged up but should have enough to pick up a win. Packers, 30-24.

Houston at New York Jets — Defense decides most games, and in this case the Jets’ D should be the difference maker. I’ll take the Jets, 30-19.

Oakland at Pittsburgh — All of a sudden the Steelers are struggling while the Raiders are clinging to a playoff spot in the AFC West. I can’t see the Steelers losing two in a row at home. Pittsburgh wins this one, 27-23.

Washington at Tennessee — If you’re looking for an agent your search should stop with Donovan McNabb’s. Can you believe $40 million guaranteed over five years? Even with the Randy Moss factor the Titans should prevail, 24-20.

Seattle at New Orleans — The Seahawks don’t score enough, and the Saints defense has regained its form. I’ll take the Saints as my Pick of the Week, 33-17.

Atlanta at St. Louis — The Falcons haven’t done too much on the road, while the Rams have played very well at home. This is another gut game. I’ll go with the Rams, 23-21.

Tampa Bay at San Francisco — This game should be fun. The Bucs are playing well, especially on the road, while the 49ers finally seem to be getting their act together. I’ve been pulling for both teams, but I must choose one — the 49ers, 20-17.

Indianapolis at New England — The Colts have not played well on the road, while the Patriots are 4-0 at home. With that said, I’ll stick with New England, 27-23.

N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia — The Giants were exposed by the Cowboys and John Kitna, so what do you think Mike Vick will do to them? I hope the Giants play well, but I can’t see them beating the Eagles at this stage. I’ll go with Philly, 34-28.

Monday, Nov. 22

Denver at San Diego — The Broncos put up 49 points against the Chiefs, but I don’t see them doing that against the Chargers. David Rivers and Co. should prevail in this one, 35-17.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

Students dressed in neon lined the soccer field for senior night under the lights on Thursday, Oct. 16. The game against Lakeview was the last in a series of competitions Thursday night in celebration of Homecoming 2025.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.

Student initiatives shake up Homecoming
The poster promoting the Homecoming dance boasted the event would feature dancing, games and a bonfire. Reactions to the planned move outside were mixed, with some students excited about the changes and others expressing a desire for tradition.

The weekend of Homecoming at HVRHS was packed with events including rival games under the lights, senior night, and a new take on Homecoming that moves it outside — and it wouldn’t have been possible without the students of Housatonic.

Orchestrating was no easy feat, especially considering much of the work was left up to the students.
