Ronald A. Marchand

WINCHESTER CENTER — Ronald A. Marchand, formerly of Winchester Center, died suddenly at Hartford Hospital on Jan. 28, 2016. He was a volunteer firefighter in Winchester Center for 44 years and a Connecticut Fire Warden for 22 years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, owning his own excavating business prior to retiring and moving to Maine.

He was born Sept. 10, 1942, son of the late Beatrice (Emmons) Marchand Broggi and Amile Marchand. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Noreen; his two sons, Kevin and Richard (Alita); two grandchildren, Sean (Sarah), Travis (Amie); great-granddaughter, Ashlyn; sister, Deborah Eichner (William); brother, Peter Marchand Sr. (Noreen); nephews, Peter Jr. (Jennifer) and Brett Marchand (Kimberly); niece, Holly Cassaday (Steve); great-nieces, Jordan, Taylor and Alexandria; great-nephews, Jacob and Connor; aunts, Marian Pratt, Carol Gatti and Betty Emmons; several cousins; sister-in-law, Marcia Drenzyk; and innumerable good friends in Connecticut and Maine.

A spring memorial service will be held at Winchester Center Congregational Church on May 14 at 2 p.m. Contributions may be sent to Winchester Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 20, Winchester Center, CT 06094 or Winchester Center Congregational Church, PO Box 200, Winchester Center, CT 06094.

On Saturday, June 21, Mort Klaus, longtime Sharon resident, hosted 250 enthusiastic supporters of Northwest Corner’s beloved nonprofit, Chore Service at his stunning 175-acre property. Chore Service provides essential non-medical support to help older adults and those with disabilities maintain their independence and quality of life in their own homes.

Jane MacLaren, Executive Director, and Dolores Perotti, Board President, personally welcomed arriving attendees. The well-stocked bar and enticing hors d’oeuvres table were popular destinations as the crowd waited for the afternoon’s presentations.

The mission statement of the Berkshire Bach Society (BBS) reads: “Our mission is to preserve the cultural legacy of Baroque music for current and future audiences — local, national, and international — by presenting the music of J.S. Bach, his Baroque predecessors, contemporaries, and followers performed by world-class musicians.”

Its mission will once again be fulfilled by presenting a concert featuring Dane Johansen on June 28 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 29 Main Street, in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
